Just my opinion but probably most of the Arabs who stayed in Israel and didn't fight are the ones who have been there since the original Arab invasions and so had a centuries old connection to the land but those who listened to their leaders in the surrounding Arab states and fled before the war, or stayed and fought the Jews are probably not indigenous to the area.
