Ben Gurion led a group of terrorists who wanted to break away from Palestine.
That is WHY THEY DECLARED INDEPENDENCE on 15th May 1948.
If they DIDN'T Declare Independence to CREATE A SEPARATE STATE, then Palestinian would be able to RETURN to Current Israel (if your assertion that it was just a change of Name...Lol).
Because the Palestinian Constitution of 1922, allows for citizen to return home - and so does the UN charter.
Now, wouldn't that be a great idea; allowing the Palestinian to return to their Home??? Then you will have a One State again. And you have lots of Palestinian signing up to the IDF, being Doctors and Engineers (in accordance to your previous BS). Lol
