Sadly religion is part of the reason for the conflict - the concept of the 'promised land' is from Abrahamic religion and allegedly a promise made by God to Jews as a covenant. But that was something promised in the old testament and written in the old testament - not the new. With the new testament came a new covenant:

Thus the notion of Israel fighting for the so called 'promised land' is not a demand from God today but simply a matter of misguided Israeli pride and as occurred in previous times it's imminent fall, as they fell short of what God allegedly required from them in return in the first instance - that of faith - replaced by fear and idolatry. Then add in a few over zealous nation 'leaders' out for revenge or reclamation politicking and where it's assured average people will suffer horribly.

Not an expert on religious matters nor politics but a lot of wars are based on religious or political motives with their power plays. Why should the current conflict deviate from such motives? Man never truly learns from their mistakes if history is any indication - just different players with more destructive weapons.

Then there's the notion that the world is way overpopulated hence a perfect way to depopulate is to create wars. Looking around the world more and more countries are embroiled or drawn into bloody conflicts. Carefully laid out predetermined paths by some to achieve desired results? Oops, wouldn't want conspiracies now.
