    no it’s not new. Moreover it’s not at all uncommon for those who are secular Jews or whose parents or grandparents eschewed their religion

    it is a particular type of reaction that is often seen in those who have experienced trauma or inter generational trauma.

    it can take a very particular form which results in flight or fawning behaviour - thinking that by repudiating their religion or win favour with their oppressors. It’s not just seen among Jews and it is exactly what gave rise to the kapos

    however it doesn’t protect them. When it comes down to it the hate just as easily extends indiscriminately and being a traitor doesn’t protect anyone
