Special Hostage Release Report / Saturday, June 8

4 Israeli hostages released from captivity in a heroic operation and brought back home alive!

What do we know already? It was a daylight operation in the middle of Nuseirat (central camps) that involved hundreds of soldiers from many units, including from the Israeli police (Yamam) and the Shin Bet.

The operation was approved by the PM on Thursday, after weeks of preparations and intelligence gathering, when the conditions were believed to be optimal. This is not just another operation, it's really one of a kind, and the level of expertise and cooperation required here will be told for ages. Never forget, this heroic effort could have just as well ended in a colossal disaster, as so many variables could have changed before or during the raid.

Special units from different organizations reached the Nuseirat market area. This is the heart of the Nuseirat camp, but unlike Rafah or north Gaza it is crowded with civilians. This is where Hamas decided to keep the hostages, guarded heavily from all around by hundreds of terrorists, so you realize there's no way that many civilians were not aware of the hostages in their vicinity.

The raid was preceded by deception attacks on other parts of Nuseirat. This was done by the 98th division (commando and paratroopers), that provided the envelope to this entire operation.

The hostages were rescued from TWO separate locations, so the operation had to be done simultaneously and involved covering fire from the ground and the air. The news at this stage are still sketchy, but they tell of a huge battle that left Hamas in shock.

About 200 terrorists guarded the abductees. At the beginning of the operation, some 50 ran away. 55 were killed and the rest neutralized with various injuries. While the terrorists were busy fighting, another force emerged from a different direction and kidnapped the hostages under their nose.

The hostages were driven to the beach just next to the US pier, onto helicopters that waited to take them to safety. Just try to imagine the tremendous joy when hearing an Israeli voice, after 8 months (!) telling you "you're going home"?
