The US is finished forever as an arbiter of any "ME solution" .The US is a combatant and has no credibility at all as a mediator, not even under pretense. Nor do the Europeans of course. Russia, China and the ME states themselves are the only credible mediators. Another example of how the US has spent away its own influence.
