whilst the french revolution was happening the whigs in London were quickly emasculating the monarchy and granting freedoms to the natives in the hope of averting a similar uprising. There had already been a couple of minor skirmishes. These moves gave the citizens the most freedom of any in europe.
To think that unionists were hunted down and hung or deported (or both) and are now the Govt in the UK!
