Trump warnsIran that Israel is planning 'even more brutal' attacks
US President Donald Trump has againurged Iran to reach a deal with Washington on its nuclear program, warning thatIsrael's attacks "will only get worse".
In his first public comments since theFriday attacks, Trump said on his Truth Social platform that "there isstill time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks beingeven more brutal, come to an end".
Israel attacked Iran's capital early onFriday in strikes that targeted the country's nuclear program and killed atleast two top military officers, raising the potential for an all-out warbetween the two bitter Middle East adversaries. It appeared to be the mostsignificant attack Iran has faced since its 1980s war with Iraq.
Simmering tensions over Iran's rapidlyadvancing nuclear program boiled over and Iran quickly retaliated, sending aswarm of drones at Israel as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned of"severe punishment".
Two Israeli security officials spoke oncondition of anonymity to discuss the highly secretive missions, saying thecountry's Mossad spy agency smuggled weapons into Iran ahead of the strikes inorder to target Iranian defences from within. It was not possible toindependently confirm their claims. There was no official comment.
The officials said a base for launchingexplosive drones was established inside Iran and that the drones were activatedduring Friday's attack to target missile launchers at an Iranian base nearTehran
They said Israel had also smuggledprecision weapons into central Iran and positioned them near surface-to-airmissile systems. They said it also deployed strike systems on vehicles. Bothwere activated as the strikes began, in order to target Iran's defences, theofficials said.
Countries in the region have condemnedIsrael's attack, while leaders around the globe called for immediatede-escalation from both sides.
The attack hit several sites, includingIran's main nuclear enrichment facility at Natanz, where black smoke could beseen rising into the air. Later in the morning, Israel said it had alsodestroyed dozens of radar installations and surface-to-air missile launchers inwestern Iran.
The leader of Iran's paramilitaryRevolutionary Guard, Gen. Hossein Salami, was confirmed dead, Iranian statetelevision reported, a significant blow to Tehran's governing theocracy and animmediate escalation of its long-simmering conflict with Israel.
