We got started about circumstances in the Mid East at present. I fessed up that I was pretty confused about the politic over there. This is what he told me.

Israel has a majority muslim population (Palestinians) that basically the Israeli government mistreats and at best ignores. A large portion of the Palestinians have been driven to the Gaza Strip where they are basically entrapped with little aid from Israel, no autonomy and restricted access for allowed UN aid and aid from nearby Islamic countries. Hamas has emerged to provide some leadership within Gaza but governance is eratic at best.

What a horrid existance for Palestinians in Israel and in Gaza and its been that way for 50-60 yrs ... a completely disenfranchised people. Two to three generations have known nothing different. It is fertile recruiting ground for terrorist organsiations seeking youth with nothing to lose..

Imo Israel has much to answer for and there appears to be not a lot of international pressure exerted on Israel to clean up its act ... how can the Israeli government mistreat a majority of peoples within what is now a modern western economy without rebuke from the balance of the western world ... its all the worse imo because it could be argued the Israelis are inflicting crimes now that were inflicted on their religion during WW2 ... they dont see it, wont admit it and they justify it.

about the only thing they share is a religion - pretty much everything else is different culturally.
