I now think that people here in Canada don't know what "freedom of speech" really means and why it is needed. Our society, basically, is almost blind without free speech. We are captured by the few who xontrol the monopolies and we become their slaves. Scott Ritter in the US is currently feeling the anger of those who want to keep us ignorant.

We had a feeling of freedom in the early 70's but it started to deteriorate in the 90's when fhe Military Industrial Complex lost the Soviet Union as a convenient enemy and then created the "terrorist" threat by rebranding those who were called freedom fighters by Reagan into terrorists. The reaction to 9/11 combined with the activism of the Anti-Defamation League ended up breaking the institutions of free speech including the news outlets.

So fhere we are, with a Western political class all singing the same song and aupporting the genocide going on in Gaza.

Now, can we flush that captured political class or, sadly, do we have to wait for some external event to wake up the people? I feel we are heading for the 'waiting' option. Option 1 would be the better alternative though.
