    October, 2003: THE NEW ANTI-SEMITISM

"This is the scariest time for Jews since the Holocaust," warns talk-show host and national columnist Dennis Prager in the spine-tingling October issue of Whistleblower, titled "THE NEW ANTI-SEMITISM."

Indeed, ever since the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks – blamed by many in the Arab world on Jews, even though all 19 hijackers were Arab Muslims – a virulent strain of anti-Semitism has been spreading wildly, not only throughout the Muslim-Arab Mideast, but in Europe and even in America:

Major newspapers throughout the Middle East and elsewhere routinely publish stories claiming "the Jews" torture and kill children to harvest their blood for use in holiday pastries.

Palestinian children are taught, virtually from birth, to hate "the Jews" and to look forward to blowing themselves up while killing as many Jews as possible.

Police in Germany recently busted large numbers of neo-Nazis who planned to bomb a Jewish worship place Nov. 9, to "commemorate" the 65th anniversary of one of the most stunning examples of anti-Semitism in the 20th century: Kristallnacht. (During that infamous night in November 1938, rampaging mobs throughout Germany, Austria and Sudetenland savagely attacked Jews in the street, in their homes, at their workplaces and in their synagogues, killing at least 96 Jews, injuring hundreds more, burning between 1,000 and 2,000 synagogues, destroying almost 7,500 Jewish businesses, and vandalizing cemeteries and schools.)

So-called Christians on the "radical-right" fringe condemn "the Jews" for supposedly killing Jesus Christ, pretending to be God's chosen, corrupting the government, news media, entertainment and banking industries – and in general, for attempting to rule the world.

Liberals and leftists, traditional champions of the underdog, engage en masse in a form of fashionable, politically correct anti-Semitism by condemning Israel's "racist," "apartheid," "Nazi" regime, portraying the tiny Jewish state (with 0.1 percent of the Mideast land mass) as the brutal aggressor Goliath, while casting the Arab world (with 99.9 percent of the land, and all of the oil) as David.

Open anti-Semitism is increasingly common and blatant on America's college campuses, as at the University of Chicago when recently a car drove up to a Jewish student and a passenger screamed: "Death to Jews. Hitler should have finished you all off when he had the chance," and fliers posted in a dorm to publicize a pro-Israel rally were defaced with obscenities and vile, anti-Semitic suggestions.
"This issue of Whistleblower is simply the most powerful journalistic probe yet of the current worldwide explosion of anti-Semitism," said WND and Whistleblower founder and Editor Joseph Farah.

In this eye-popping special issue, WorldNetDaily's editors team up with some of the world's most articulate experts on this subject to document the recent stunning increase in anti-Semitism throughout the world.

    Contents include:

"Why anti-Semitism? Why now?" by Joseph Farah

"Neo-Nazis planned to mark Kristallnacht's 75th anniversary with bombing," by David Kupelian.

"What's the cause and what's the cure?" in which Farah explores the nitty-gritty of anti-Semitism.

"Jews called 'accursed forever and ever,'" displaying a recent Egyptian newspaper column that literally says to Hitler: "If only you had done it, brother."

"Prime-time hate from Arafat TV," by Kenneth R. Timmerman, revealing how Yasser Arafat continues to incite Palestinian children against their neighbors, even if it means death.

"The sickness of anti-Semitism," by Jim Gerrish, an eye-opening Christian perspective on hatred of Jews in the church.

"The anatomy of an anti-Semite," by WND Managing Editor David Kupelian, a probing and insightful analysis of why Jews and Israel have become the worlds favorite scapegoat.

"Mel Gibson's 'The Passion': The most offensive film ever made" by WND co-founder Elizabeth Farah, explaining the real reason for the controversy over Gibson's latest film.

"Real anti-Semitism" by Joseph Farah, who asks why the Anti-Defamation League is attacking Mel Gibson's "Passion."

"Those who curse the Jews and those who bless the Jews" by Dennis Prager, a stirring and soulful look at the biblical admonition and how nations' and people's treatment of the Jews has affected their own destinies over the ages, as well as in today's world.
Calling "THE NEW ANTI-SEMITISM" "one of the most important issues we've published yet," Farah added, "I also truly believe we get closer to laying out the core reasons for anti-Semitism, and revealing what the real cure is, than any other news organization has up till now."

It comes in many forms. Some are exotic ...

They are accursed in heaven and on earth. They are accursed from the day the human race was created and from the day their mothers bore them. They are accursed also because they murdered the Prophets. ... These accursed ones are a catastrophe for the human race. They are the virus of the generation, doomed to a life of humiliation and wretchedness until Judgment Day. ... Their history always was and always will be stained with treachery, falseness, and lying. ... Thus, the Jews are accursed – the Jews of our time, those who preceded them and those who will come after them, if any Jews come after them.
    – Official Egyptian daily newspaper Al-Akhbar, in a recent column titled "Accursed Forever and Ever" by Fatma Abdallah Mahmoud

    And others are homegrown ...
The reason that Jesus Christ hasn't returned for judgment since being murdered by the Jews 2,000 years ago is because not one single white person from the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has stood up and exposed Satan and his devils. Only true white blood is recognized by God, even as Noah was 'perfect in his generations.' Satan and his devils now face Jesus's wrath! Brainwashed evil white politicians, clergy, teachers, professors, and other traitor white collaborators will be transformed into Niggers by Jesus and cast into Hell and tortured forever!
    – White supremacist group in Illinois

    Some target Jewish people ...
You are wicked deceivers of the American people. You have sucked their blood. You are not real Jews, those of you that are not real Jews. You are the synagogue of Satan, and you have wrapped your tentacles around the U.S. government, and you are deceiving and sending this nation to hell. But I warn you in the name of Allah, you would be wise to leave me alone. But if you choose to crucify me, know that Allah will crucify you.
    – Rev. Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, Saviours' Day Speech, Chicago, Feb. 25, 1996

While others focus on the Jewish state ...
Farah and WND have either been duped and misled by the Zionist Jews, or they are willingly cooperating with one of the most repressive and out-of-control nations the world has ever seen.

Your actions make you partially responsible for every one of the thousands of Iraqi, Afghanistanian and Palestinian children who have been murdered by Israel or its henchmen, the USA. To call yourself a Christian is an insult to the Lord Jesus, and to every other true Christian who has ever lived. You should be ashamed of yourself, but I'm sure this is an alien concept to you.
    – Two recent e-mails to WorldNetDaily.com
But they all have one thing in common: They hate Jews.

Today, thousands of books and articles in many languages describe the supposed sub-human character and dark machinations of Jews. Think tanks devote years to the painstaking revision of history to eliminate or downplay the Nazi Holocaust. Newspapers throughout the Middle East and elsewhere regularly publish diatribes condemning Jews as Satan's cannibalistic offspring.

Palestinian children are taught, virtually from birth, that Allah desires beyond all else that they blow themselves up in the flower of their youth while inflicting as much pain, torture and death as possible on people they've never met. Self-righteous pseudo-Christians excoriate Jews for murdering Christ and pretending they're "God's chosen." Card-carrying, underdog-defending, racist-hating "leftists" fulminate over the brutal "apartheid" regime in the "racist" pariah state of Israel.

    Why?

Imagine for a moment that you hate "the Jews" – or, if you actually do hate (resent, blame, condemn, mistrust) "the Jews" or the Jewish state of Israel, look at yourself objectively for a minute.

What is this feeling you feel when you first breathe in Jew-hatred – when you quietly, knowingly condemn "the Jews," blaming them for your problems, our nation's problems, the Mideast crisis, Jesus Christ's death, the plight of the Palestinians, whatever? What exactly is it you are experiencing?

    Ecstasy

It's like the rush of a drug, but much smoother, more subtle, more powerful, more transforming. One minute you're full of anxiety and rage over the miserable state of your world. But the next minute – having partaken of the "drug" – your thinking has been totally reorganized, revolving now around your illuminated understanding of life. Suddenly, everything makes sense. You are part of the world's elite – with esoteric knowledge of where all this evil is coming from. You totally understand both past and present.

But this "high" provides much more than just total clarity about who's good and who's evil. There is also a sense of what can truly be described as euphoria, exaltation, ecstasy, power, identity, "belongingness," a feeling of righteousness, a restoration of lost innocence. Yes, hatred and blame can confer counterfeits of all these qualities and more.
Confusion and ambivalence are replaced by noon-day clarity. Helplessness is replaced by a sense of power. You feel as though the wisdom of the ages (the Jews were always bad, weren't they?) courses through your veins, as the inexorable power of historical truth imparts to your previously muddy thoughts the strength of steel.

In short, the anti-Semitism drug has the power to transform a loser into a winner – a turkey into an eagle!

    Scapegoat

Actually, it doesn't have to be the Jews – but as we'll see, they do make the best scapegoats. Still, any person or group can serve the basic purpose of a scapegoat – someone on whom we can project guilt and blame.

Reality check: May I respectfully remind us all that we, as human beings, are spiritual creatures, held to a high standard by our Creator, and that our inevitable and frequent failures to think and act nobly gain for us guilt and inner conflict?

To put it even more simply, we're all guilty. We're "born in sin." For you cynics, that's not just some traditional, Christian-type phrase for you to tolerate. It's spiritual shorthand for the undeniable fact that we exist, even the best of us, somewhat apart from God. And that the contrast in our souls between what we are and what we should be, and could be, beckons to us as a guilty conscience. That's our condition – and it's what pulls us toward paradise, if we're sensible. From our limited perspective, it's literally how we experience God. And as we face ourselves and repent truly and change effortlessly, we're slowly transformed from wooden Pinocchios into real live children of God.

    But.

What about those who don't want to face reality, who don't want to have to behold their own failings, weaknesses and disobedience? Well, there's a tempting smorgasbord of options available to us to facilitate our escape from basic truth – at least for a time. Drugs, alcohol, sex, music, entertainment – there are many escapes, but one of the most powerful and dangerous, far more addicting than any drug, is blaming and resenting others for our problems, or scapegoating.
The interesting thing about blaming a specific race or ethnic group is that it completely absolves us from any possible guilt.

Think of it this way: If evil can come into this world through our own ignorance, lack of character or corruption, then there's a chance, somewhere along the way, that we could wake up and realize we're responsible for our own problems! We might just realize that we share some of the same evil propensities we are condemning in others! But if evil is racial – BINGO – we're home free, saved, automatically deserving of all the rewards heaven has to offer.

That's racism's big appeal to the sick mind. It's so darn safe and easy. If you're a white who hates blacks – or a black who hates whites – there's just no chance that you're accidentally going to realize you're part of the problem, since the problem exists only in the other, "evil" race.

    Why the Jews?

Although any group has scapegoat potential, there's something special about the Jews.

"One of the most prominent and credible theories" of anti-Semitism, writes author and psychoanalyst Phyllis Chesler in her new book, "The New Anti-Semitism," "is that the Jew is the scapegoat of the world." She explains:
A scapegoat was an animal whom God instructed the Jewish high priest to sacrifice publicly to atone for the sins of the Jews (and only the Jews) and for the high priest's own sins. In the Torah, the offering was literally two goats, never a human being. One goat was a burnt offering, the second was thrown from a cliff.
The concept of scapegoating may also be understood in more secular and psychological terms. For example, when a man is angry at his boss, or at authority in general, but can't afford to express this anger directly lest he lose his job or his life, he might redirect his rage and frustration at his child or wife, who cannot hurt him and, as a vulnerable dependent, is a safe and ever-dependable target. Verbally abusing or beating his wife will not change his work conditions or the humiliation he may feel at work, but it may make him feel powerful over someone. Perhaps he has also internalized his boss's withering ways and when he visits such abuse on a wife or child, he may feel that here at least he is the boss.

But what, asks Chesler, "if the problem one faces goes far beyond one's own working conditions and includes collective disasters such as plagues, earthquakes, sterility, and famine? Whom can an afflicted society then blame?" She recalls the European Catholic Church's notorious executions of multitudes of women accused of witchcraft – "that is," she writes, "of causing male impotence, miscarriages, abortions, crop failures, plagues, and other deeds that cannot be attributed to a loving, Christian God but only to Satan – and to his most intimate mortal companion, Woman."
However, noting that the women thus accused of witchcraft "belonged to the same ethnic and national groups that denounced them and that then laid claim to their land and possessions," Chesler says the art of scapegoating was refined still further when later, in Spain and Portugal, "the Inquisition was carried out not against women but against Jews."

Analyzing the advantages of targeting a separate group, as opposed to one's own group, Chesler writes:

From a psychological point of view, if a man or many men – if entire nations – are suffering from poverty, disease, violence, and other conditions over which most individuals are helpless, perhaps the intimate family scapegoats – women, children, servants, and slaves, who may also be suffering – cannot be targeted. Perhaps the more reliable scapegoat is not part of oneself, but a stranger, an outsider, not one's own wife or child. Nothing unites people who are otherwise and at all times divided as well as having a common enemy to scapegoat ...

Perhaps someone of a different race or religion might better serve as a scapegoat, the one who must suffer and atone for the people's sins. Perhaps perpetual evil may be perpetually embodied by one group in particular, a group that seems to exist everywhere but does not really fit in or belong. A group that resists fitting in, rejects belonging, prefers its own ways, its own kind; an indigenous, nomadic group – secretive, strange, "different," but worldly wise and well-traveled. Smart. Monied. Filled with ideas. Who better than the Jews?

    David and Goliath

The imminent release of Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion," and the controversy surrounding it, brings to center stage the age-old issue of "the Jews" being responsible for the death of Jesus. That such an idea ever took hold is, in itself, incredible. Jesus Himself was a Jew and most of His followers were Jews. So how is it that we behold a group of Jews, some of whom follow their Jewish leader, Jesus, while others reject Him and a few call for His death, and yet we say "the Jews" of that time killed Jesus? Hey, "the Jews" of that time also believed in Jesus, followed him faithfully, wept at his feet at the cross, spread His message boldly afterward and suffered persecution and martyrdom unto death for His sake!

It was the Judean authorities who felt threatened by Jesus since His revolutionary message so powerfully resonated in the hearts and minds of the people. So they did what corrupt rulers always do – they plotted to get rid of the threat to their authority.
So supremely illogical and spiritually disastrous is blaming all Jews for the death of Jesus that it suggests this particular delusion is a special "pet" lie of the author of all lies, one satanically infused with an extra dose of hypnotic "pull" on the unsuspecting human mind.

Looking at this same "super-lie" from another angle, let's focus on contemporary Israel:

Just as the Jew is the scapegoat of the world's people, Israel is the scapegoat of the world's nations. It always seems to be wrong. No matter who attacked Israel first, no matter how great the loss of innocent life and limb, no matter how real the threat of annihilation – when Israel fights back to defend its right to exist, it is widely hated and condemned as a pariah nation.

This is beyond ignorant, beyond inconsistent, beyond illogical. It's akin to a spiritual trance state to blame a civilized, conscience-driven people for defending themselves – a people with no other home on earth, living in a tiny desert nation the size of New Jersey, one which no one else wanted. (That's right, there was no huge Islamic hue and cry for "Jerusalem! Al-Aqsa!" before the modern Jewish state was established in 1948 – that widely held belief is part of the trance state.)

Today, throughout the Middle East, and increasingly in Europe and even in the U.S., virulent articles are published accusing Jews of torturing and eating children, of lying, murdering and raping their way to unjust territorial expansion. And indeed, there are people in the Mideast who are bloodthirsty, who dream of torturing innocents, who love to sacrifice children, who lie as easily as breathing, who are consumed with rage and hate, who throw acid in the faces of innocents, and who slash and rape and burn with religious zeal. But they are not the Jews. They are the radical Islamists – the very people accusing the Jews of committing such atrocities.

The "big lie" repeated endlessly, as Hitler understood, indeed has power.

There is something eerily spiritual about "David" (Israel) being perceived as "Goliath" (the surrounding Arab world) and vice versa. There is something eerie about Jews, the victims of the Nazis, today being commonly and publicly compared to Nazis for defending their right to exist.

Remember the Jenin massacre of over 3,000 Palestinians, as reported by the world's press? There was no Jenin massacre of 3,000. There were targeted raids into the inner sanctum of Palestinian terror groups based in the Jenin refugee camp, during which a total of 52 – not 3,000 – terrorists were killed. But, we still hear about the "Jenin massacre."

Since 1948, multiple Arab nations have repeatedly attacked Israel in unprovoked wars of intended annihilation. Realizing they couldn't destroy the Jewish state through conventional war, they embarked on – and spoke openly and frequently about – a long-term campaign of unconventional conflict to accomplish the same ends, the total elimination of the Jewish presence in the Mideast. The campaign to establish another Arab-Muslim state ("Palestine") adjacent to Israel, the two intifadas, the signing of peace agreements only to break them, the constant terror attacks on civilians – are all aimed at destroying Israel. It's no secret.

And yet, Israel and "the Jews" get the blame, not only from the Arab-Islamic Middle East, but from liberals and leftists the world over. Remember, liberal and leftists are people who traditionally support the underdog. (Israel has 0.1 percent of the Mideast land mass, while hostile Arab neighbors possess 99.9 percent of the land, not to mention all of the oil).

These are people who claim to support human rights. (Israel is the Mideast's only democracy. Virtually all of the Arab countries are totalitarian police states.)

These are people who oppose racism. (Israel allows Israeli Arabs to vote, to be elected to parliament, all the rights of citizenship, while the Arab-Muslim nations practice the most extreme and repugnant forms of racial and religious persecution on earth.)

But none of this matters. Leftists and liberals today, from the UK and Europe to America's college campuses – as if in the grip of a bizarre trance – look at tiny, democratic Israel defending itself against almost daily terror attacks, but can see only a brutal, Nazi-like "apartheid" state. They witness Palestinians dancing and celebrating in the streets on Sept. 11, 2001, they see Yasser Arafat turn down (at Clinton's Camp David) the very Palestinian state he claimed for years he wanted, they behold Palestinian parents, teachers and clerics molding innocent children into murderers and terrorists. But despite this, all they can see are the long-suffering, freedom-loving Palestinian people and their noble but beleaguered leadership.

    "Allah will torture them"

Perhaps the primary reason for the medieval state of much of the Arab-Muslim Middle East – not to mention the frightening level of Islamist radicalization now metastasizing there – is the overwhelming obsession with blaming and hating Jews, Israel and, more recently, America and the West.

Many sermons, rather than teaching and exemplifying love of God and neighbor, simply spew raw hatred. Here's what a leading cleric, the former acting rector of the Islamic University in Gaza, Dr. Ahmad Abu Halabita, said not too long ago in a typical sermon:
O brother believers, the criminals, the terrorists – are the Jews, who have butchered our children, orphaned them, widowed our women and desecrated our holy places and sacred sites. They are the terrorists. They are the ones who must be butchered and killed, as Allah the Almighty said: "Fight them: Allah will torture them at your hands, and will humiliate them and will help you to overcome them, and will relieve the minds of the believers ..."

To repeat, this is a sermon, delivered in a house of worship:

Have no mercy on the Jews, no matter where they are, in any country. Fight them, wherever you are. Wherever you meet them, kill them. Wherever you are, kill those Jews and those Americans who are like them – and those who stand by them – they are all in one trench, against the Arabs and the Muslims – because they established Israel here, in the beating heart of the Arab world, in Palestine.

How will such rage and delusion ever give way to reason and peace? Pointing to an inspired answer, former Libyan Prime Minister Abd Al-Hamid Al-Bakkoush wrote an astonishingly honest article last year in the London-based Arabic-language daily Al-Hayat, in which he revealed what's really wrong with the Arab-Muslim world today:

While the nations of Western civilization ... deal with their problems one by one, and while we monitor their ceaseless efforts to come up with solutions and remove the obstacles blocking their progress while unhesitatingly exposing their flaws and problems – we, [always], continue to distort our problems and hide our flaws ...

Furthermore, we continue to convince ourselves that those who progress are merely nations full of problems and flaws. We have always acted as if our problems and flaws do not exist as long as we can hide them behind the smokescreen of memories of [ancient Arab-Islamic] civilization with its lofty values, of which all that remains are sermons in the mosques and media products ...

We have become a nation that celebrates helplessness, exults in victory in time of defeat, marks achievements at times of failure, and takes pride in its ability to hide its defects by arguing perfection ...

A nation that does not expose its flaws to itself, as those who progress do, will never be able to deal with its ills. Hiding failures and presenting them as achievements, [and] denying defeats and presenting them as victories, will only lead us to more hardship and disaster.

Likewise, a nation that ... gives precedence to preoccupation with the "other" will reap only crises. ... Have we not been quarrelling with Israel for 50 years or more, with burning tongues and throats of fire? [We do this] without considering that what we are doing is, in effect, [preoccupation] with the "other," and that it would be better for us to persevere in, first of all, dealing with our [own] flaws and defects ...

That brings us back full-circle to the main point:

Sincere, humble people are willing to see their own flaws and defects, and that honest introspection inoculates them against falling to the seduction of anti-Semitism or any other blame game. In contrast, prideful egotists hate seeing their own faults and need a scapegoat on whom to blame their misery. Power-hungry leaders know how to exploit that weakness big-time.

And isn't this what we've seen all through history, even today? "Leaders" and "authorities" telling the confused, angry, dysfunctional masses that their miserable, twisted lives are not really their own fault, but are the fault of the Jews, or blacks, or whites, or the rich, or whatever? Hitler turned the Germans' misery into perceived nobility by focusing on the Jews. And this transference, this blame-game – this scapegoating – has been the modus operandi of power-hungry demagogues before and since.

    Divine paradox

When all is said and done, the reason for this eerie reversal of reality-perception when it comes to Jews, I believe, is that the Jews have a special spiritual mantle on them: They were chosen by the Creator Himself thousands of years ago to play a special role in the development of civilization.

And the fact is, lots of people have a serious problem with this. They envy Jews for having been chosen by God, or they rewrite history to deny God's covenant with the Jews, or they claim today's Jews aren't really Jews (descendents of ancient Israelites), or they imagine that God has withdrawn that blessing from the Jews and conferred it instead on them, the enviers. This is the supreme folly of "replacement theology."
Indeed, pride and envy hold sway in much of the world's population, being at the core of man's lower nature from the beginning – even before the beginning, so to speak, if you include Lucifer, the No. 1 angel, who envied God and rebelled against Him. Cain envied Abel and killed him, Ishmael envied Isaac, Joseph's brothers envied and plotted to kill him, selling him into slavery.

The Jews have long been envied for the favor God has shown them.

The Jews are a divine paradox, one of many: For instance, it's a divine paradox that God knows what's going to happen to each of us before we're born, and yet we have free will. It's a paradox that God is love, and yet God allows evil to exist, to serve a certain purpose.

In the same way, it's a paradox that the Jews, although as a whole they rejected Jesus as being the promised Messiah, are nevertheless still chosen by God as a special people, with a special blessing as well as a special burden.

And it's a divine paradox that though the Jews are God's chosen people, they are not any better – nor any worse – than others. God chooses whom He will use to suit His purpose. He uses kings and shepherds, ordinary and extraordinary people.

And since His Kingdom is open freely to all, what difference does it make, anyway?

A final question for those so-called Christians who are tempted to blame the Jews for Christ's death, or to condemn or dismiss them for not accepting Jesus as the prophesied Messiah:

    Are you going to Heaven?

    Yes?

Do you deserve to go to Heaven?

No, you say? "All fall short of the glory of God"? But by God's grace alone, you say, through Christ, you receive the fullness of the Father's blessings?

Very well. But if God can be gracious to you and give you blessings you don't really deserve or understand, why can He not do likewise with the Jews, for His own reasons – reasons as yet unbeknownst to you?
