I dont think they need to raise straight equity but instead issue new hybrid notes as this has been an under utilised strategy by ANZ during the GFC.
After Mike Smith comments today he is still on the hunt for more acquisitions and I think that over the next 2 years that $2 - $3 billion of acquisitions is highly likely and that is why I think it will go down the hybrid notes.
I guess time will tell.
