    There is likely more to this than fees. Unless there's a special deal between Amex and Amazon, Amex's costs are higher and Amazon continues to promote Amex.

    Interestingly Visa says:
    "We are very disappointed that Amazon is threatening to restrict consumer choice in the future,"

    Really? Isn't that what Visa did to ISX? They could bully ISX but...
