There are a lot of exchanges around the world that rely heavily on HFT (high frequency trades) to the extent that without them, and the revenue acquired, they would self implode. It is of my understanding that many of the banks (among others)are dialled in to HFT trading. This being said it does really give an interesting insight to what some exchanges, and banks (or others)may or may not have in terms of close working (symbiotic) relationships.
To add further... if such a close working relationship did arise than it may carry some influence. as common goals may be attained. I ask, If a new technology comes into the market what would be the approach of the much much larger companies who stand to lose....
