Not even close it’s time to shine is about now. Do a basic review of silicon anode companies that are actually in commercial products and it will yield little result. However the time is closing in rapidly for the shift, Anteo still have a major opportunity in the next gen battery space but need to be very focused on the best approach.
Prior regime chased the holy grail of direct integration with Mercedes and others global end users and it may well end up happening, however they never managed to get any real funding for the work or equity investment which has been a killer. There is plenty of smaller market participants with lower time, lower barriers and lower cost to entry that could be explored. The real key will be defining where in the process they should attack, personally I didn’t mind Conor’s approach of engaging the majors but also engaging binder companies such as Trinseo, and small battery players that make their own products such as Wyon. Whilst these didn’t eventuate as prior management chased bigger fish, the approach was for quicker market entry and eventually a broad use of AnteoX by engaging direct with the material suppliers.
The life science industry is also still a major opportunity with low cost rapid testing being proven through the pandemic. The approach to the Indian market is a good one and there remains a ready made business model for substituting EDC/NHS bio conjugation for the much less labour intense, quicker, cheaper, longer storage and reproducible Anteobind offering. A plethora of research papers since 2020 has shown many research labs are beginning to understand the benefits this should be advertise heavily and promoted to the correct channels. The distributor partners seem to offer the product but not a great deal of assistance with marketing it, this is a simple fix.
The other thing I have noted about both Merrill and Glenda as opposed to David and Ewen is they have both founded, run, grown, listed and built there own companies, not just managed the affairs of existing ones. This may seem a minor detail but having built companies from the ground up myself as well as helping run others, there is a massive difference in skill set but also mindset between the two. Sitting on a board or management position requires many skills but founding a running a business from the ground up means you appreciated every facet of the business from the basic tasks to the major ones. You also get a real appreciation of the staff and are much more likely to listen to ideas no matter which part of the organisation they come from. Sometimes the best ideas come from the least likely source as they may be at the coalface of the problem not sitting atop the ivory tower.
