Home Builders, REITs Extend Rally

BOSTON -- Both residential and commercial real estate stocks stretched their rally on Friday, rising for the third straight session. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Home Construction Index Fund , an exchange-traded fund tracking home builders, was up about 5% in afternoon trading Friday, while the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate Index Fund rose nearly 4%. Shares of builders and real estate investment trusts have rallied this week despite mall giant General Growth Properties Inc. filing for bankruptcy.
