Put the words Hydrogen in somewhere Tizard and it will be approved in a heart beat, grants flowing etc etc
From what i understand Graphite (and HPA) is actually used in Hydrogen fuel cells and Electrolysis, so maybe that's our angle to get things cooking!
Look im not against the principle of hydrogen, but i think people need to recognise it is not a solution for everything and it is a 10-20 year proposition with lots of uncertainty and risk. The concept of exporting it to places like Holland i find far fetched - big companies like Shell, who are actually Dutch have plans to build a hydrogen plant in Holland. Scandinavia has some of the best wind resources in the world, remember places like Denmark have some of the highest wind penetration in the world already. Northern Africa, Spain etc has huge solar potential. Do we really think we are going to make it here and ship it half way across the world and be competitive? Isn't this current crisis all about energy security and independence. Asia maybe, but I would have thought Northern Australia and the existing infrastructure at places like Gladstone would be in the box seat. Hydrogen opportunities i think are more in steel, aluminium, shipping, maybe aviation, heavy transport, remote power systems and a substitute for gas in industrial processes. .
We should be taking a balanced approach and focusing on getting our energy right here. The opportunities in battery materials and downstream activities, processing etc are just massive and they are opportunities now for this decade. Lets seize all of the opportunities and let more share in the spoils.
Tizard what you raised about Sugarloaf is interesting and the applications in fertiliser. Russia and China again are the biggest producers globally, does the world need to start looking at alternatives. I would be interested if someone has a good resource explaining all the different uses of graphite and what type of graphite is suited different functions. My focus has historically been for battery anodes, but there is obviously a lot of other potential uses.
Anyway looking forward to seeing some more updates soon.
