If you have solar panels and battery you could generate enough power for all 24 hours or at worse pay for a small amount of power.

How muHch coal does it take to power 1000 MW?

Coal plants require enormous amounts of coal. Shockingly: a 1000 MWe coal plant uses 9000 tonnes of coal per day, equivalent to an entire train load (90 cars with 100 tonnes in each!).
