Years and years ago - in the 50's I think - military thinking was that missiles had become so advanced that we did not need aircraft. The Air Force, of course, baulked at the thought of losing their beloved pilots. Now that our capabilities are becoming so much more advanced - it seems nigh on inevitable that wars will be fought from the comfort of a club lounge chair. On the way to that I give you:

And also on the military (and disaster rescue) front:
These little Dutch NERVA drones are no joke.
Also worth a look:
I am also reminded that there have been experiments that install a chip on Cockroaches to control their movement. If we were able to do that then we might co-opt bats similarly. There is an anologue version of the modern digital drone - that is the Bat Bomb - which was to be an answer to Japans encindiary hot air balloons that were to terrorize the USA. Those who have not heard of this might like to visit this rather sanitized version of events on wiki. The project ended in fiasco when visiting newsmen asked for a demonstration and a bat got loose setting fire to the wooden hangars at the remote airbase the project was domiciled at. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_bomb
I hope our solution is at least up to besting the ground and air drone threats that are being deployed and developed.
