I think UCG is a great transitional strategy for govts and industry to handle the move from straight coal expor and the pending ETS regime. Shure there will be Environmental Impacts but when u compare UCG with traditonal Coal u just cant compare and then when u compare UCG wit CSG again UCG comes up trumps. IMO its not about being too focussed on one industry but to comapre across the sectors and to choose that which has least environemtnal footprint within the coal context.

At any rate I do recall the the UCG process is very localised and effectivley moves along almost like sandmining for heavy metals but just that its underground
