I sometimes despair at the remoteness of Australia from the rest of the world. Despite the immediate access to knowledge via the internet, we remain isolated, sheltered and somewhat ignorant, dare I say, a country of 'knockers' preferring to err on the negative rather than open minded, investigative and agreeable to change. We are constantly bombarded with negativity via the media with brain washing consequences.

Quite simply the ORC Powerbox is nothing new. The first recognised application or ORC was in Israel in 1965 when hooked into a solar thermal complex. ORC systems of sorts, have been generating power from waste heat for many years. Companies manufacturing ORC waste heat to power (WHP) systems are found on every global continent including Australia.

While Opcon produces the Powerbox, other companies also are into industrial ORC applications of WHP on a significant scale. I have sited a few here........

A big player in the US is Recycled Energy Development.
Some interesting facts and figures here.......

Ormat Technologies (Nevada - est 1972) see this info about Ormat.

Turboden - (Northern Italy - focused on ORC technology since 1980)
This is an excellent PDF article, well worth a read. Published, March 2009.

Cryotec - (Germany - est 1995) this page confirms its ORC WHP systems production and commissioning.

The Powerbox is one of many global solutions to generate power from waste heat. Opcon is not alone in producing a skid mounted / containerized solution. The 740KW Powerbox positions itself in a variety of high heat output facilities. ORC based Powerbox and similar products are being deployed around the world in facilities keen to maximize the benefits of producing additional power from waste heat. The applications for these 'box' solutions are numerous and varied.

The technology is sound and proven in a variety of applications and climatic conditions. Opcon is not breaking ground with a new product. From my understanding, it has made significant improvements over other known 'boxed' systems to make it more efficient with minimal maintenance & upkeep. This PDF is a good explanation of the Powerbox workings and applications.

There is no doubt in my mind that the future for generating power from waste heat is a bright and profitable one. Traditional power generation costs and power distribution infrastructure supply and maintenance are going to increase in the future - no doubt about that. Waste heat from numerous industrial applications is always going to be produced. It is simply common sense to harness and use this waste heat to generate additional 'free' power.

The Powerbox is a 'no brainer'. There is a huge global market for ORC WHP units waiting to be tapped and utilized. Quite simply, the Powerbox is a power and money generating system.
