I think all independents will end up following the leaning of their respective electorate. It is in their own self interest, so it was no surprise that Wilkie went Labor, one assumes they all hope to get elected next time as well, or change the voting habits of electorates that are very conservative.
Actually Wilkie hasn't taken anything away from the Liberals, he will not support no-confidence motions unless warranted nor block supply, and will consider any other matters on it's merits.
He hasn't burnt any bridges, hasn't got his electorate offside, and MIGHT have won some concessions along the way. If the Liberals do get up, they will still be able to continue horse trading with him if they want his support on any important issues.
