There are vast differences between the US and Aus also.

We don't send our armies to bomb foreign countries.

We don't withhold our payments to the UN because we're too arrogant.

We don't have the second largest number of homeless beggars on the streets of our major cities (second only to India).

We didn't maintain apartheid on our law books until 1975 (in Louisiana).

We don't send our troublemakers to foreign countries to be tortured (unless your name starts with "John" and ends in "Howard", then you ask your Yankee buddies to do it for you).

We used to have a decent education system (until we copied the Yanks).

We used to have a decent health care system (until we copied the Yanks).

We can actually brew a decent cup of coffee (unlike Starbucks).

People all around the world actually like us.

I could go on.

But my point is essentially what you state at the end - most Australians are behaving too much like Americans - and we are getting the same problems. If we want to avoid/solve these problems, we need to stop acting like Americans, and start acting like civilised people.

So it looks like you agree with me.
