I’d love for them to buy it as I have heard it’s been run as a pretty bloated operation so significant cost out potential as well as synergies given proximity to Bengalla.
However, I don’t think they will unless they get an extension for the licence. NHC have publicly stated they will only look at long dated assets with attractive returns.
Clencore’s acquisition of Cerrajon was the deal of the century — I expect it has already paid for itself.
A low price environment for NHC (for a period) is actually beneficial. Allows it to use its balance sheet capacity to by cheap assets. That’s the end game here…
