John and Andy,

I am shorting gold effectively, it's just the amount of risk you want to take. I've said it dozens of times before, so here it is once again just for you two.

An ultra-short gold, no thanks, stocks, which in general are not correlated with gold, yes, and to prove my point:

Since the beginning of 2013,

My trading account +13.7%
Gold -4.6%
Silver-3.7%

Last 12 months:

My trading account +26.6%
Gold -9%
Silver-13.6%

I also own a few mutual funds, an international fund, a Japan fund and an Asia Pacific fund which are also ticking over very nicely, I also have some cash and even a couple of term deposits, very boring but the returns sure beat the hell out of gold and silver.

A few of the stocks I own are SGP, DOW, TOL, VAH, sold TLS (unfortunately), AWE, MGR.

So who's making the money and who's sitting on a useless but pretty metal that's slowly disappearing down the toilet?
