Monday, 11 February 2013 Kristie Batten THE local market is looking like it will open weaker this morning, despite positive offshore leads from Friday’s session. But if the market has another good showing like last week, the S&P/ASX 200 should push through the 5000 point mark for the first time since April 2010.
The SPI 200 Futures index was trading 9 points down to 4926 points, despite almost all other global futures indices trading higher.
Friday was a good session for global stocks, particularly Europe, with the Euro Stoxx up 1.2% after gains of over 1.3% in France, Spain and Italy.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 gained 0.6%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.3%.
The NASDAQ jumped 0.9% due to a near 5% rise for technology giant Apple.
Miners may help lift the Australian market, with metals having a good session in London on Friday.
Zinc was the best performer, up 2% to $US2181.75 per tonne, while copper gained 1.1% to $8259.50/t.
Gold lost 0.2% to $1666 an ounce, while spot iron ore remained at $155.10/t CFR Tianjin.
