    ummm, lots of stocks fall without being shorted: its called being sold...

    to short a stock you need a 3rd party willing to lend shares, and there are a lot of stocks where no one wants to lend shares, so you cant short them... how do they 'magically' drift lower?

    the point is, while obvious in hindsight, it would have taken serious balls to short lyc at $2... people were still buying the fundamentals then! REE's the essential material of the future, china reducing quotas etc... why would you have shorted it?

    similarly, going long now is counter intuitive. basket price falling, no end in sight to the long term down trend, shorters in control etc etc... it will all seem so obvious in hindsight.

    its a good thing not everyone sees it the same way, it makes for a healthy debate...
