I wouldn't waste your breath trying to educate those who are stuck in their views. They asked a loaded question trying to increase negativity towards the stock, you can tell from how they articulated their question.
The reality is the two things aren't apples to apples at all. I can leverage the cloud (Amazon, Firebase etc) and have a system capable of scaling up to process 100m transactions a second without breaking a sweat. It wouldn't do much but the capacity would be there. So you're spot on, functionality and connectivity is what takes the most time. The New Payments Platform (using mobile number to pay others instead of BSB & Acct #) took 4 years to build here in Australia.
