I'll take it a step further.
You scan the item and the shops qr code and receive the e-receipt which adds to your personal diary which syncs to your bank provider for statement matching.
You walk out of the store and security checks your e-receipt or you can scan on their reader to validate the items.
Forget about limited physical self service checkout terminals. Checkout while you walk is the future of POS (or at least my vision).
