I agree that it is %100 pure speculation that they are using XRP.
When you say "XRP don’t have anything resembling financial software" while technically correct as XRP is the crypto currency, you do realise that Ripple are the company that essentially owns/controls XRP. Ripple the company have financial software, RippleNet, that banks are using currently with their private ledger in conjunction with ODL (On Demand Liquidity). This is used to be able to convert Fiat from country "A" through an exchange and then send to country "B" through another exchange then convert to back to another Fiat currency all in seconds and cheaply.
I agree that there is multiple ways to take a clip of the ticket through different ledgers. If we get to a stage where majority of transactions are done through a CBDC (Fedcoin) and a bridge currency like XRP, there is massive potential for it to be greatly reduced.
