Frost worse than expected
Report: Owen Grieve
Reports of frost damage in this season's crops indicate that crop losses were much higher than farmers were expecting, far more widespread than first thought, and affecting all crop types and varieties. Farm management consultant, Garren Knell from Consult-Ag in Narrogin has been looking at the incidence and impact of frost events, especially with wheat, over the last four years as part of a GRDC funded research grant. He says it's been a challenging year to manage frost. "We recorded over 16 frost events from the end of August so the timing of those frost events were pretty critical and took out a lot of different timings of crops."
