Yes, the pricing makes something like the Baxi Ecogen look more attractive. But it has an electrical efficiency of only 10% (and I think as a result may not qualify for the UK feed-in tariff). With that kind of efficiency, it makes more sense for a household to pull power off the grid from a modern gas power station and use that to drive a heat pump.
And run at full power the Baxi produces 25kW of thermal output, most of which will be simply thrown away in a household deployment. So it would fit better in a commercial setting where all the heat can be used and the electrical output run at the full 1kW.
