Thai Airways combats bird flu

Bangkok (VNA) - Thai Airways International (TAI) has taken measures to control bird flu in response to the recent bird flu recurrence in the country, and the first reports of the H5N1 virus in Turkey and Romania.

TAI acting President Somchainuk Engtrakul said that his airline has installed "True Hepa" air filters in all its passenger cabins.

TAI has also established a programme on hygienic passenger board environment and has been vaccinating its crew members.

All efforts were appreciated by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

On October 19, the Thai Livestock Development Department announced the return of the disease in Phanom Thuan district in central Kanchanaburi province, where a man and his son have been hospitalised after showing sumptons of bird flu, such as high fever and bronchitis. They had previously cooked and eaten a sick chicken.

Earlier, H5N1 virus had been detected in migrant birds in Kanchanaburi and Rachaburi.--Enditem
