    Hi Pile,
I saw that you mentioned running your pool for 8 hrs a day.
I have recently (12 months ago) changed to a copper ionization system to replace conventional chlorination.
This system is run by solar power and now allows me to run the pool pump for one hr a day all year - no chlorinator. (to clear dust and leaves) Supplementary chlorine tablets may be required during peak summer months. While the system is still in its infancy for me, I am encouraged by results.

    Please consider : http://www.smarthome.com/3241/Floatron-Solar-Powered-Pool-Purifier-Low-Maintenance-Pool-Purification-System/p.aspx

I believe there is a reseller in Perth.
