That's a really interesting question. I seriously considered making a punt on Thursday, but I never thought about this one.
Obviously, if you take the punt, being a good sport you should pay for it. But legally, the ex-div rule implies change of ownership does not complete until settlement, so maybe there is a loophole there. Imagine if such loopholes do exist, these opportunities would be almost as good as arbitrage!
