Agree with your sentiment towards an ENI deal - probably asset level I would think as no one wants to end up with an ASX coy which it has to unwind (deal with smaller shareholders) IMO.

I work very closely with and for the Chinese and dont see natural interest here. The ROC/CNOOC PSC was of course a China concession for which CNOOC had back in rights already so that distinguishes that. Perhaps a CNOOC play for the whole asset but again dont see that: the recent CNPC corruption issue will also see China go pretty slow on deals going forward as no one will want to stick their head up.

On to NENs longer term plans. My sence from my very limited DD is that they are not a development coy but rather a 'finder' and explorer of assets (and pretty good at it). Do any of the longer term holders have views on their ability / motivation to actually develop these assets?
