Denmor in the OP mistakenly wrote: "The warming produced the CO2 and not vice versa -- which is exactly the opposite of what they were trying to prove!"

    Not true!

Denmor, do you understand yet (after Opaline and I clarified things for you) that science has known for decades that CO2 rise was not the forcing (initial trigger) of warming at that time (or in most but not all past warming episodes), but was a very strong feedback causing more warming.

What the research team was studying was the changes in temperature at different locations around the world and comparing it with the known changes in CO2 concentration. Their research showed that 'at the global level, warming followed CO2 increases'.

Seden33 - huh? I am familiar with charts showing CO2 has been rising since the end of the industrial revolution in the mid 19th century. I suggest you read your paper and/or my response to your post again. Your post is about the current episode of global warming - a different period to the one that denmor is posting about. This time greenhouse gases are the forcing, not the feedback, that are causing the oceans (and the global land and ocean surface) to heat up. (Feedbacks are operating now too.)

("Skeptics" earn extra points for saying a paper means the opposite to what it really says. Denmor and seden33 win a prize plus extra points for every TU they hooked :D)
