I know killing children and babies and uninvolved citizens is not self defence. So why is it when Hamas ongoing terrorism - and before that the PLO and before that Arab states invasion - is pointed out people feel the need to retort in that way.
there is little point in turning it into a goodies vs baddies fight as some want to do. Both sides have and do act shamefully. Both sides feel they have just cause and whether one side or the other has more just cause than the other is debatable. it depends on perspective, belief systems, historical perspective and timeline for that.
