Can one see how silly this "manipulation" of the ASX index is?

ASX had reasons to include Kogan and Nearmap in the ASX because they were showing potential earlier on - but now excluded to be replaced by new upstarts that show potential but not making any money just yet. Nothing wrong with that except that Novonix does not make a dime and has a market cap of $5.8B ! Imugene has a market cap of $2.9B and with biotech, its anything goes ( those who held Mesoblast should know that) despite it being a featured stock. But Kogan and Nearmap already makes decent profis and have market cap of just under $1B. So what really is the criteria for such a change? Other than the need to exclude detractors and include the performing stocks.

And then you get financial planners showing you how the ASX index rises over time - of course, they remove the duds along the way so the index 5 years later has different component stocks than those 5 years earlier .

Understand this. Don't follow the indices blindly. You can make money despite the indices falling and you can lose money despite the indices rising. Its the stocks you hold that count.
