@1ronnie - I find this article highly emotive and the factual explanation of who and what will solve the crisis, i.e. Mr and Mrs Average, who has been on low wages for yonks, will now lose their jobs as well - more than cruel when probably some of the 2% of the world richest people live in the United States.
I was so angry after reading this I went back to my teenage 'socialist' views - outmoded, bedevilled, and unworkable as well - I know.
The capitalist system is unworkable too for the average citizen. We need to seriously think how to re-organise our societies.
The pandemic has taught us a few lessons - state intervention helped a lot of people.

Isn't it time for a lot more intervention? by the really wealthy, by the state?

I don't have enough economic knowledge to know how to drive this capitalist system, fact is it lets us down time and again - in between it works by keeping up the illusion that 'you, too, can be rich, when you get the 'secret knowledge' - if you don't you are just plain dumb and you deserve your lot and at the next temperamental 'fit' of the casino we call 'the economy' you will be the loser.

I am disgusted at the Milton Friedman's of this world who deal with the ordinary citizens as if he/she were an insect to be nourished or dealt with by pest exterminator, just to keep the hive going . . . . we need a new theory, a new way of dealing out 'our daily bread'.
