..Woolworths CEO does not what his ROE is? Or too shy to answer.

..poor guy, but since he is leaving Woolies, he can come straight with his answers. Or yeah, the Board would withhold his big payout if he does a poor job defending. Guess he must work for his millions

    Banducci threatened with prison

Greens senator Nick McKim has again threatened Woolworths boss Brad Banducci with prison time over the question of the company’s return on equity.

McKim says the Senate can hold a witness in contempt for not answering questions. He insists Banducci tell the committee what Woolies’ return on equity in the past financial year was.

Banducci says he doesn’t know the number and takes the question on notice.
    McKim is furious.

“There’s no context to this question, apart from the context where you are giving evidence to a Senate committee and it is open to the Senate to hold you in contempt and imprison you for up to six months if you do not comply with an order of this committee.

“That is the context of this question.”

Banducci has taken the question on notice and confirms he does not know the return on equity number.
Banducci pressed on return on equity

The Senate inquiry has resumed, and committee chairman Nick McKim has asked Woolworths boss Brad Banducci if he knows what the company’s return on equity is.

Banducci says the company makes a fair return on the rival metric of return on investment.
He won’t discuss return on equity.

“I do not focus on it, given it changes over time, therefore it is just not where our focus is, as it shouldn’t be,” Banducci says.

“I focus on our return on investment, and our total shareholder return. Those are the numbers I know, those are the numbers we focus on and those are the numbers we should be judged on.”
