    1ronnie you are leaving out the tax impact on the final sums. Selling incurs a tax liability and once this is taken into account the figures are a lot closer than you make out. You lose say 47% of the gain to the tax man so have only that and your initial stake to invest elsewhere.

    Yes, tax liabilities for a given sale value vary with circumstances but that leaving out the after-tax part is a mistake.

    Not justifying holding stocks for no good reason.
