Either he does not understand or he is simply engaging on mass hoodwink of simpletons who don't understand economics. Tariffs raises the cost of imported goods which will certainly be passed on to American consumers via higher prices. Higher prices make imported goods less competitive vis-a-vis local made ones - so either less of them get sold but the American importer must lift his/her price to sell locally in US or bear the cost. It is not money going into the US Govt like taxes. So when Trump said he is gonna raise so much tariff that they can be used to pay for child care subsidy, that is idiocy that even mainstream press failed to address.
...If Tariffs are Trumponomics, then America will be facing much higher inflation.
