...some time ago I mentioned that we as consumers have been taken for fools by our oligopolistic businesses here and that we are paying more for our local produce than what it is sold for in foreign markets. This below proves it.

...even after 50% discount off normal prices, our supermarket price for Tim Tams is only a tad cheaper than what it is sold in UK at original prices. But they could be sold in UK for as low as $3.85 while we pay $6 normal price here!

...the reason they are sold cheaper overseas is because there is no ready demand there for our brands and competition is greater. While in Australia, everyone seems to be happy naively buying at normal prices with no questions asked and taken for fools.

...it is telling us something: when our big businesses are shielded from overseas competition, they would price gouge us and we want to buy Aussie and they know it and take full advantage of us.
Coles and Woolworths refuse to answer questions about why Tim Tams are cheaper to buy overseas

    • Pack of Tim Tams cost less in London store
    • Supermarket bosses grilled over prices

An iconic Australian biscuit is more expensive to buy Down Under than it is from a UK supermarket.
Coles and Woolworths typically sell a 200g pack of Arnott’s Tim Tam Original for $6, though the latter supermarket currently has the product on special for $4.50.
But a picture shared to Reddit showed that at Waitrose, an upmarket UK supermarket, shoppers could pick Tim Tam Original and Chewy Caramel up for £2 on special — the equivalent of $3.85 here.
Even when it’s full-price at Waitrose, the pack of TimTams sell for £2.50, which is $4.80.
Shopper Adam, who goes by the Price Check Guy online, also spotted the difference and compared the price between Tesco, another UK supermarket, and our Woolworths.
