...to serve as a reminder that Trump's America First is no friend of Australia, recall that when China boycotted our wheat and barley, US sought to have China to procure them from US as part of Trump's trade team's transactional trade deal with China.
...it is my understanding that China never completely fulfilled the trade deal signed with team Trump despite all the show on the success of the deal, and I am sure Trump 2.0 would return to the table to get China to honour what was agreed.
...fact is that as China is obligated to buy more from USA, some other countries including Australia would be losing out in the process.
....while we tend to view Trump as being anti-China, we cannot imagine that team Trump being transactional in nature would 'force' China to sell more of their critical minerals to US in exchange, which runs contrary to our expectations that our mineral exports to US would be more secure under Trump.
....Trump is guided by $$$ with no moral conviction one way or another, he can demonise something or someone but befriends it or someone the moment they become on his side or offers him some monetary interests. The Chinese will know how to play him.
