1. it potentially places American interests and people in harm's way
2. it violates international rule of law, setting up a precedent for others (including China & Russia) to follow with no impunity
..Australia is right to adhere to principles of international rule of law - it is not about one set of rules for people/country you support/like and another for those you don't.
..and if we do not follow such rules, we cannot equally condemn those we oppose who do not (follow them).
..America has also lost its moral high ground (if any left) in doing so, losing international respect as a consequence.
