I'm actually a bit interested in the concept.

How do these units hook up to the network, is it via a copper pair (ADSL)?

If that is the connection method and you wanted a ready made infrastructure with a very low install cost (meaning the power and copper pair are already in place), with a bit of effort these things could be incorporated into or even turned into a front end interface for those stand alone independant owned EFTPOS units cropping up all over the place.

There's one of those EFTPOS things for every 10 shops down my way. Most of them are in takeaway shops where people have to kill time waiting for food. Good secure spots and people standing around with stuff all else to do - that would be my install criteria.

Still a bit suss though as there's not i can't do with my mobile phone, but if as it has been mentioned they would be wifi hot spots and that the data would come out of Telstra broadband plan's then that would be sweet.

If the price stabilises around here i might have a dip once i get my head around the facts and the business model.
