Have to agree meerkat. What I find astonishing is that all these protagonists for our involvement in US foreign policy are unable to point to a single thing Australia has gained from its military alliance with the US since WW2. It's been all one way with Australia's involvement in US imperialism.
And why? Do they honestly believe that the US would come to Australia's aid if it didn't suit them at the time? US foreign policy since WW2 has been one long history of disasters. Australia has entered into each one blindly to its great cost in terms of lives and treasure. The whole US model is built upon confrontation and aggression. Their premise of exceptionalism is archaic and dangerous.
By the way, like it or not, the Greens are the only mainstream party that do not support our involvement in US foreign policy.
