"spot" is not contract price
there are many kinds of coking coal, in ranges of quality
contract price must remain above the operating costs of the major producers
when prices fall, it is the minor & higher cost producers that are phased out
very good announcement today by AKM, imo
South Gobi bought 106M shares at 19 cent each
Noble own 63M shares, with 23M bought at 39 cents each, 16M bought at 49 cent average & around 15M for 69 cents. total average price is over 50 cents
South Gobi could offer $250M or 30 cents a share for a takeover but Noble (7.3% shareholder, fully diluted) would be at a loss
