I have had many discussions with Hardman about this, and Matamata will not be drilled this year as the commitment well. In fact, IIRC, I think it's even been mentioned here before by some other posters (who I can't remember). There is no doubt it will be drilled, just not in 2006. The favourite front-runner is a prospect in the Eastern part of the Basin (no name yet) with the targeted recoverables of about 150-200MBO.
Their strategy is similar to the drilling of Chinguetti in Mauritania as their first-up well even though it wasn't the biggest hump they could find down there. They want to prove up the region, especially if they drill it alone. This is not to say that they are less confident about Matamata, but you wouldn't want to risk devaluing the entire region by playing your trump card first up.
I'll happily eat my own words and stand for correction if it does get drilled this year, but I very much doubt that it will.
